As one way of promoting sanity, quality and better coordination, organizers of various arts festivals in Malawi held a workshop on Wednesday 29 January 2025 at Edge Water Court in Lilongwe.
At the workshop, the festival organizers were tipped on strategies for creating better and more sustainable festivals, including insights on events branding and sponsorship, monetization, festival planning and execution, and organizing gender responsive festivals. The Department of Arts also shared with the participants the guidelines for organizing events in-line with prevailing policy and legislative frameworks.
In his keynote address at the workshop, Presidential Advisor on Arts and Heritage, Q. Malewezi urged the organizers to strive to promote collaborations among themselves, emphasizing that the audiences at the festivals are the same.
In his remarks, Director of Arts Humphrey Mpondaminga urged the organizers to coordinate with the Department of Arts in organizing these events, including following the calendar of festivals that the Ministry produces each year.
The one day workshop was organized by SKJ Lab in partnership with Department of Arts, with funding from Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority.
