Censorship Division
The Censorship Division, which operates through the Malawi Censorship Board pursues the regulation aspect of the Department’s mandate, and it plays a key role in ensuring that art content aligns with the nation’s cultural, social, and legal standards. Malawi's Censorship Board is tasked with ensuring that art content distributed to the public meets criteria that protects community values and maintains societal harmony.
The Censorship Board has two main sections.
Films, Music and Publication section, responsible for the classification of art products.
Public Entertainment Section, responsible for the regulation of public entertainment.
The Censorship Board is headed by the Deputy Director of Arts responsible for Censorship who is appointed by the President.
